PRIVATE HIGHLANDS PHOTO TOURS

THE VOLCANIC HIGHLANDS

FULL DAY TOUR (8+ HOURS) - SUMMER ONLY

  • A full-day private expedition through Iceland’s raw volcanic heart. Craters, canyons, and technicolor lakes. This is a landscape that feels more Mars than Earth.
  • Your private driver-guide picks you up in Hella, and heads west before turning inland toward the edge of the highlands.
  • First stop: Sigöldugljúfur – “The Valley of Tears”: A breathtaking canyon that marks your entrance into the volcanic highlands.
  • From here, you’re in the heart of it all. Countless craters rise from a black, desolate landscape unlike anywhere else on the island.
  • Stand at the edge of Hnausapollur and Ljótipollur, two striking multi-coloured crater lakes moulded by ancient volcanic activity.
  • Heading back west, the landscape softens into moss-covered terrain on the approach to Hekla, one of Iceland’s most active and legendary volcanoes.
  • The final stop is Rauðaskál, a stunning red crater resting at Hekla’s base. A fitting finale to a once-in-a-lifetime day.
  • Minimum 2 participants. A private highland expedition for families who want to see the raw, volcanic side of Iceland few ever witness.
